Central's Landis & SPU's Cai each sit in second after day 1 of GNAC multi-event championships...
NAMPA, Idaho—Central Washington’s Kodiak Landis (above/photo courtesy Great Northwest Athletic Conference) sits in second at the halfway point of the decathlon competition at the Great Northwest Athletic Conference championship at Bohner Track on the campus of Northwest Nazarene Monday.
Landis has a first day total of 3552 points, as James Phillips of Concordia/Oregon leads at the break with a first day total of 3642 points.
Landis started the day by running 11.14 in the 100, then long jumped 22-5.25 (6.84m). He proceeded to throw the shot 35-8.75 (10.89m), and high jumped 5-8.5 (1.74m), then won the 400 in a time of 49.66.
In the women’s heptathlon, Seattle Pacific’s Scout Cai, the reigning indoor pentathlon champion, sits seond with a first day score of 2857, while teammate Brooks Benner is third at the break with 2753 points.
Central Washington’s HarLee Ortega is fourth with 2728 points, as Karolin Anders of Alaska Anchorage leads with 3017 points.
Cai ran 16.34 in the 100 hurdles, then won the high jump with a clearance of 5-6 (1.68m). She then threw the shot 33-4 (10.16m), then ran the 200 in 25.81.
HUSKIES MOVE UP ONE SPOT IN LATEST USTFCCCA COMPUTER RANKINGS
The University of Washington women's track team moved up one spot in the latest USTFCCCA computer rankings released Monday.
The Huskies are ranked #23 after being ranked #24 last week.
The nation's top five women's teams are Texas A&M, Oregon, LSU, Arkansas, and USC.
Other Pac-12 teams ranked are #15 Stanford, and #21 Arizona State.
The nation's top five men's squads are Texas A&M, Florida, Texas Tech, Georgia, and Alabama. Pac-12 men's teams ranked include #8 USC, #12 Oregon, and #18 UCLA.
