USATF AWARDS 2020 US OLYMPIC TRIALS TO MT. SAC

USA Track & Field announced Wednesday that the 2020 US Olympic Track & Field Trials were awarded to the Los Angeles suburb of Walnut, and more specifically, Mt. SAC College.

The meet will be contested over a ten-day period at Hilmer Lodge Stadium, host of the annual Mt. SAC Relays in mid-April.

USATF’s board of directors voted to award the Olympic Trials to Mt. SAC based upon its desire to take the sport’s biggest event to the country’s second-largest media market; the historical strength of the sport in the Los Angeles area; Mt. SAC’s record of hosting elite track events that produce top performances; and a $62 million upgrade to Mt. SAC’s Hilmer Lodge Stadium that will enable the venue to expand to a seating capacity of more than 21,000.

The stadium upgrade currently is slated for completion in 2019. Mt. SAC’s favorable weather and the area’s robust options for transportation and lodging also were cited by the USATF board, which voted 11-2 for Mt. SAC.
